MCALLEN, Texas – The annual MAFO Farmworker Conference is returning to the McAllen Convention Center next year. The city announcing the partnership with MAFO, a national organization advocating for farmworkers and rural communities.
More than 400 federal and state government representatives will be in attendance to discuss national, regional and local issues affecting those in the agricultural industry.
Heladio Zavala, MAFO, CEO, “It’s very important to us and also to the agriculture economy. People migrate from here, still do it today, into other states. So it’s important for us to be where farmworkers are from and where they live and where they migrate to other states.”
Zavala adding the conference being held in McAllen is beneficial for both the city and organization, due to the Valley’s large population of farmworkers.
The conference will run from April 26 – 29.
