But you may need it over the weekend.
It was a very cold morning Thursday morning. In fact, is was a RECORD cold morning. In Brownsville, the low was 55, breaking the old record of 58 set back in 1917. In McAllen and Harlingen, the low was the same: 54, breaking the old record of 55 set back in 1976.
The reason we got so chilly in the middle of May is thanks to the cold front. More importantly, it was thanks to the DRY air that came in. Dew points in the RGV fell to the low 30s, making us, at least temporarily, like a desert. In a desert, the dry air allows the heat to escape into space, making it colder at night, hotter during the day.
Low temperatures Friday morning will again fall to the mid to upper 50s. It will be our last really chilly morning for a while. Temperatures for the weekend will be much warmer.
