HUBBARD PART OF TEAM NBA AT ASIA CHALLENGE

September 1, 2009

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that forward Marcus Hubbard will be part of a team of NBA legends and NBA D-League players in the Asia Challenge.

The team is made up of NBA legends Dominique Wilkins, Vlade Divac, Robert Horry and Tim Hardaway, as well as Hubbard, Billy Thomas (Colorado), Derrick Dial (Tulsa), Chris Ellis (Sioux Falls), Russell Robinson (Reno) and Lanny Smith (Idaho) from the D-League. The head coach will be new Dakota Wizards head coach Rory White. He will be assisted by Los Angeles Lakers special assistant coach and basketball Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Team NBA is accompanied by New Jersey Nets mascot Sly Fox and six members of the Nets dance team.

Hubbard averaged 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, including 9.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in 27 contests (eight starts) with the Vipers, after being traded from the Wizards on January 7.

He scored a season-high 20 points against the Colorado 14ers on January 14 and recorded two double-doubles, including an 11-point, 17-rebound performance against the Tulsa 66ers on January 21. Both games were at Dodge Arena.

The team is traveling to Asia today. They will play their first two games in South Korea on September 5 against the KBL All-Stars in Seoul, and September 6 against the ETLAND Blackslammers in Incheon. They finish up in the Philippines on September 11 against the PBA All-Stars in Manila.
