The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced this past Tuesday (July 21) the recipients of the 2008-09 AVCA Team Academic Award with The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs earning the honor for the second consecutive time.

"They are all very talented young ladies that have the drive and the passion to be very successful in life. I am so proud of our team for their hard work in the classroom," said third-year head coach Angela Hubbard.

A total of 409 teams (collegiate and high school), compared to last years 354, earned this prestigious honor, including 71 of those teams coming from Division I institutions.

"Our team GPA of 3.6 is attestation of the hours they put into their academics and the pride that they have for their education. I want to thank the AVCA for recognizing us for the second year in a row and appreciate the effort they put into nationalizing volleyball and awarding the athletes," added Hubbard.

This award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
