This matchup approved for all ages -- both teams putting aces on the mound -- Edinburg's Tim Haines goes seven shut-out innings with seven K's -- the RGV leads the league in being struck out -- but their pitcher Juan Peralta brings the same cheese to the party -- six scoreless for him -- angel reyes grounds into the 4-6-3 double play -- RoadRunners do get win 1-nothing.

ROADRUNNERS EDGE WHITEWINGS IN PITCHING DUEL

Harlingen – Edinburg Roadrunners (7-6) starter Tim Haines (2-0) threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven while scattering four hits and two walks to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (5-8) 1-0 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The Roadrunners picked up the lone run of the game in the seventh against Todd Lutz (1-1). Eric Gonzalez led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an Amado German RBI-single.

Kelley Casares recorded the final five outs for his first save.

WhiteWings starter Juan Peralta pitched six shutout innings, scattering four hits and three walks while striking out two.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Harlingen Field. Left-hander Jorge Lugo (1-0) is expected to face left-hander Miguel Martinez (0-0).
