HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that forward Andrew Schembri has signed with the team for the 2009-10 season.
The 26-year-old Mississauga, Ontario, native has played the last two seasons in Germany for Miesbach TEV and had back-to-back 72-point campaigns. Last year, he scored a college and pro career-best 32 goals. In 101 total pro games, he has collected 144 points (57-87-144) and 140 PIM. Schembri led Miesbach in scoring and assists each of the last two seasons. He was also the team’s goals leader last season.
“Andrew has a track record of putting up consistent numbers everywhere he’s been,” Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. “Adding another high-end offensive player that plays with grit is a big addition for next year. He plays with passion and has great habits and fits in with the identity of our team.”
Prior to playing in Germany, the 5-foot-6, 170-pounder played four seasons at Ohio State University (2003-07). In 152 games with the Buckeyes, he posted 95 points (36-59-95) and 221 PIM. As a junior at Ohio, he led the team with 12 goals and finished second in team scoring (12-11-23). As a senior he finished tied for second on the team with 26 points.
