HSF: Harlingen Awaits Westlake

POSTED: Wednesday, November 25, 2009 - 3:26pm

UPDATED: Thursday, February 25, 2010 - 12:34pm

High School Football -- If Harlingen has a football playoff nemesis, it's the Chaps. The Harlingen Cardinals advance to the third round of the 5A football playoffs for the fourth time this decade. Of those four trips, three comes against Austin Westlake. The Chaparrals own the Bird Battle so far since 2000, including last year's 49-23 elimination of the Cards. Coach Gomez is preparing for a different outcome in 2009. Kickoff is 4 o'clock Friday in the Alamodome -- part of three Valley teams still alive.
