NewsCenter23 learns the district 32-3A executive committee recommends Hidalgo's athletic program be placed on a two-year probation.
Rio Hondo ISD Superintendent Annie McMinn tells us, "The basis for the investigation and the subsequent action taken by the executive committee was due to the allegation that students were transferring to Hidalgo ISD for athletic purposes".
Attempts to contact Hidalgo ISD for comment, La Feria's superintendent Nabor Cortez, who chaired Monday's meeting and UIL compliance director Ed Stidham, go unanswered.
The UIL state executive committee will rule on the issue during a November 16th meeting.
Hidalgo programs saw success in 2008, with the boys soccer team winning the 4A state championship, and the girls basketball team advancing to the state's final four.
Hidalgo Athletic Director Albert Guerra has been reassigned.
Guerra was instrumental in a historic announcement in late July. The UIL awarded the Valley multiple regional tournament host sites.
The Region IV-5A golf, soccer, volleyball, and basketball tournaments will be held in the Valley.
The tournaments will be for both boys and girls (excluding Volleyball, which is girls only).
