The state track meet is in Austin this weekend, and a local standout from Edinburg Economedes is heading up to take part in four events.

Leigha Brown is representing her school in the 110 and 330 meter hurdles, the long jump and shot put.

The senior is the first athlete from the Rio Grande Valley to tackle four individual events at the State meet, and has taken on as many as five events in a single meet.

Brown will go to Arkansas next year to be in the heptathalon.

"It's like what if I had just one event to work on, then I wouldn't have to spread myself between all these different events," Brown said. "But I like the competition of it and going back and forth between different events."

Brown finished fifth at the state meet last year in the 330 hurdles in what she says is her best event.
