POSTED: Friday, August 14, 2009 - 9:56pm

UPDATED: Thursday, February 25, 2010 - 11:33am

In a NewsCenter 23 exclusive, Mercedes star multi-athlete Alex Trevino clears the air about drug-use and a fresh start -- the following is part two of his story. Trevino says he made a huge mistake during football season -- but got back up...
Following a failed drug test, Trevino spent most of last fall feeling he let down Mercedes -- but his family didn't give up on him, and Trevino changed his patterns -- coming home earlier and hanging around a more positive crowd...
He advises teens to listen to your parents, they can help you stay out of trouble...
The only trouble Trevino became was for opposing basketball teams last winter -- but Tiger star shone brightest on the track...
Weslaco's Tony Villarreall recalls Trevino as one of the best sprinters he's seen all-time, and being Valley proud no matter city of origin, his staff began making phone calls.
Trevino says thanks to the help from others, he is set to run for McMurry State in Abilene -- because he is not yet a student, the Indians head coach could only say they will be excited if and when he is accepted there. And Trevino is ready to show college athletics what a Valley sprinter can do.
Under new mentorship and state of mind, Trevino is ready to test the McMurry record books both on and off the track...
He is focused on his degree first and then sports.
Trevino says he is grateful to have a second chance and hopes he inspires anyone who wants to turn their life around to do so...his story in full is available on-line at KVEO-dot-COM

*NOTE* Trevino is the cousin to 3-year Weslaco QB Dylan DeLeon, who will also be attending McMurry (baseball).
