POSTED: Thursday, July 16, 2009 - 8:25pm
UPDATED: Thursday, February 25, 2010 - 12:33pm
A local pro gives back to the community..
SOT: great turn out and a lot of fun.
TRACK: RGV Dorados quarterback Nick Hill put on a football camp today -- giving kids a chance to compete during the summer while learning valuable lessons..
SOT: football is like life and you're a winner and a loser sometimes and there's up and downs but got to know how to bounce back like in life..
TRACK: Nick speaks from plenty of recent experience -- the league's top rated passer was pulled following his second interception
in last week's loss at Tulsa -- Coach Marty Hammond then put in veteran Josh Kellett
SOT: double edge sword cuz both guys good and can make plays..
TRACK: and both did -- completing 60 percent of their passes and each threw at least three touchdowns
SOT: these guys could lead any team in the league..
TRACK: now coach Hammond faces the tough task of choosing which will lead the Dorados this Saturday and into the playoffs -- no starter has been named as of yet...>

The RGV Dorados (7-7) begin their final two-game stretch of the regular season against the Tri-Cities Fever (2-12).
RGV occupies the No. 6 playoff position and clinched a postseason berth with the July 3 win over Oklahoma City. An RGV win tonight locks up at least the No. 6 spot. If the Dorados win their final two games and Bossier-Shreveport (9-5) loses their final two, RGV would take the No. 5 playoff position based on points-differential in head-to-head games.
RGV has struggled, winning just twice in the last eight games after starting the season 5-1. Four of the team’s last five games have been decided by three points. Last week, RGV appeared to have Tulsa on the ropes but eventually succumbed to the Talons, in large part due to turnovers.
Tri-Cities is out of the playoff picture. They fell 63-21 last week at Boise. It’s been a long season for the Fever; they dropped their first six games, fired their head coach and have not scored more than 44 points in a game (avg. of 30.7 points per game).
WEEK 17 TIDBITS
• WR Rod Windsor is the new single season franchise leader in receiving yards (2111), TDs (52) and points scored (320). He passed George Williams in each of those categories (1534, 42, 276).
• Windsor’s ninth reception in last week’s game pushed him into a tie for the single-season af2 reception record. His total of 13 on the night have him tied with Quad City’s Jesse Schmidt with 166
• Craig Turner was placed on the injured reserve list on Thursday.
• Ramonce Taylor returned to the RGV lineup prior to last week’s game. He had been with Winnipeg in the CFL. He finished the night with nine catches for 92 yards and one TD.
• Nick Hill passed Josh Kellett’s single-season passing yard total with 228 yards last week. He is one TD shy (85) of passing Kellett in that category. Oddly enough, Kellett replaced Hill in the third quarter of last week’s game.
• Four of the highest scoring games by an opponent in team history have occurred this season, all on the road.
WHO TO WATCH
QB Nick Hill (321-490-18, 4202 YDS, 85 TD)

QB Colin Drafts (62-106-6, 605 YDS, 6 TD)

LAST GAME QUICK RECAP
The Dorados (7-7) battled but couldn’t hold on in a 62-50 loss to the Tulsa Talons (12-2) Saturday night at the BOK Center. With Tulsa leading 55-50 and the Dorados looking to move down field, Jamar Ransom recovered a fumble with 21 seconds left in regulation to cement the Tulsa win. It was the seventh win in a row at home for the Central Division champion Talons.
The teams went to the half tied at 27-27. RGV led as late as the 4:43 mark of the fourth quarter. Tulsa took the lead after an RGV kickoff return fumble resulted in a 17-yard TD pass from Tulsa QB Justin Allgood to Zach Edwards with 2:14 left in the game.
