Parents' TV viewing habits play a big role in how much their kids watch television.

t's no secret kids watch TV.

But pediatricians say spending a lot of time in front of the tube is not good for a child.

Now researchers are finding that parents' TV viewing habits play a big role in how much their kids watch television.

The more you watch, the more your children watch.

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania are finding that parental TV viewing habits seem to be the strongest factor when it comes to the number of hours their kids spend in front of the television.

The study, published in this week's Journal of Pediatrics, looked at 1,500 parents and their TV habits.

TV viewing was defined as anyone watching TV shows and DVDs. As well as watching movies and shows on computers.

Investigators found that on the average, parents watched 4 hours of TV a day. And that for every hour parents watched, children watched almost an additional half hour.

Researchers believe that parents need to be good role models, by turning off the set and doing something more productive, hoping that their kids will follow their lead.
