SULLIVAN CITY - A regular traffic stop for Sullivan City PD turned into a chase and then a drug bust.
It happened around 8:40 p.m. Monday evening, police said they attempted to pull over a brown Dodge pickup truck for failure to stay in a single lane. But when the truck saw the flashing police lights, he decided to run.
Police said it was a short pursuit down East Expressway 83 when the vehicle pulled off into a brush area. Police followed, but when they caught up to the truck, the male driver had fled the scene evading police. But luckily he left something behind.
"Located within the vehicle was 750 pounds of marijuana, approximately 33 bundles," said Sgt. David Rocha, Sullivan City Police.
Both the cabin and bed of the truck were packed with bundles, but Sullivan City Police said this is not a surprising amount of narcotics.
"Average seizure, they are normally between 500 and 800 pounds, this is right around the average," said Rocha.
Sullivan City is still investigating currently they don't believe the pickup to be stolen. There are currently no suspects.
