She's still alive but in critical condition.
MCALLEN - Around 8:15 this morning McAllen Police responded to this motel about a woman with serious injuries. They say she was found by the motel house keeper.
Police are not releasing the woman's name, only that she is 19 years old. She was found inside one of the rooms at the La Casita Motel on Fourth Street in McAllen, with a gun shot wound to her head.
"We do have an ongoing investigation, and as I said she's in the hospital in serious condition," said Sgt. Joel Morales, McAllen Police PIO.
Police said she was taken to McAllen Medical Center where she is receiving treatment by their trauma center. Police are still in the early stages of investigation and aren't revealing much information. So we asked police if this area is a spot for higher levels of crime.
"I'm not going to speculate, but I can tell you there has been calls for service here and police have responded and at this point, as part of this investigation we have a woman here that has been injured, at the very least we're looking at aggravated assault, it could be more serious criminal attempted murder," said Morales.
La Casita Motel workers were not willing to comment or give information on who made the room reservations. Police hope to get information from the victim about who assaulted her, but they will have to wait until after treatment. Police said she is still in very critical condition.
McAllen Police aren't revealing any leads they may have on a suspect.
