Harlingen residents may soon be saying goodbye to the red light cameras put into place to cut down on speeding and red light runners for the last three years.
A bill pending in the Texas legislature could be the end of red light cameras in Harlingen and all around the state. State representatives say, red light cameras will be taken down after contracts expire between cities and the private companies, which operate them. The City of Harlingen is the only city in the Valley with these cameras. Harlingen's contract with Redflex which operates the traffic system is up in November with nine red light cameras monitoring five intersections. Law makers are expected to vote on the issue later this week.
