DONNA - It has been one month since the opening of the Rio Bravo International Bridge in Donna, and police said with a recent fourth hire, they are set with sufficient enforcement at the bridge.
Prior to opening the bridge, the Donna Police Department determined it would take more that 8,500 man hours to completely secure the bridge.
This meant they needed new officers, and earlier this month they made their final hire. The Police Chief said four officers is sufficient for the amount of travel coming back and fourth across the bridge.
"Their job is going to be to provide security for all the city's assets and all the motorists that are coming through our bridge," Ruben Ram Deleon, Donna Police Chief.
Deleon said so far the community has been very excited to have this crossing point with Mexico and traffic across the bridge increases every day.
