A Zapata Private First Class soldier has died in the line of duty in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense reported that 22 year-old Ira Laningham died on Friday in the Longar Province, Afghanistan as insurgents attacked his unit with a improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Laningham was assigned to the 2nd Battalion 30th Infantry regiment in Fort Polk, Louisiana. According to Laningham's Facebook page he was a graduate of Zapata high school and was married.
