McAllen- With the last moments of 2010 coming to a close, there are several future mother's vying for the position to have the first baby of the New Year.
At the Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance, they think they know which mom that's going be.
Nurses predict that Lina Valdez, 27, will hold off long enough to have this hospital's first baby of the New Year. With a mixture of pain from contractions and excitement for the upcoming birth, Valdez said she hopes the baby waits until 2011.
"I'm very excited if I do have the first one, it's great," said Lina Valdez, Future Mother.
For this first time mother, the experience of labor is unfamiliar, but she is trying to stay calm.
"Calm, a little pain feeling contractions, but calm," said Valdez.
Valdez knows she is going to be having Udardo Arjona, a little baby boy. She came in early this morning, feeling her first contractions, but the nurses said they think she will have a long labor, long enough to get her into the New Year.
So Valdez is waiting and trying to find ways to stay comfortable.
"When I first came in she did have some pain, but it went away. I'm having a little discomfort, so I moved on my side to ease the pain," said Valdez.
But for now Valdez will have to play the waiting game.
