With such a huge influx of people walking the downtown area tonight, the City of McAllen and the McAllen Police Department are having around 150 officers on patrol throughout the city.
There will be around 84 police officers along with an abundance of state officials and alcoholic beverage control officers patrolling the area.
Police want everyone participating in the event to have a safe and comforting environment to celebrate in while welcoming the New Year.
"New Year's is about celebrating, New Year's is about doing lots of things, we want people to have a good time, we want people to celebrate. But we want people to do so safely, we want them to do it in a way that is safe for them and is safe for others," said Chief Victor Rodriguez, McAllen Police Department.
Police want to remind those coming to the New Year's Bash, there is no open drinking allowed on the streets or anywhere.
The only place alcohol can be consumed will be in a few establishments on 17th Street and in the Beer Garden on 16th Street.
