In Donna, just six days after the newly Donna International Bridge opened, U.S. Customs are already seeing criminal activity at the crossing. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on December 18, a 45 year old Mexican national man who lives in McAllen was stopped before crossing into Mexico. Officials conducted a second inspection to his a 2000 bronze GMC Sierra pickup.
Officials said they found 20 (.22-caliber) rifles, one (20-gauge) shotgun, three (12-gauge) shotguns, one semi-automatic (.380-caliber) handgun, one (.357-caliber) revolver, four high capacity magazines and 4,448 rounds of ammunition concealed within the GMC in this enforcement operation. CBP officers seized all the weapons, magazines and the vehicle.
“This is the first significant seizure at the Donna International Bridge and CBP officers will continue to work diligently to stem the flow of weapons out of and narcotics into the country, said Port Director Nancy Becker, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry. "I congratulate our CBP officers for an outstanding job with this interception.”
The driver was taken into custody and was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations
