Hidalgo County Sheriff deputies have arrested one of the suspects who stormed into a home with guns this past Wednesday just north of Weslaco. According to the Sheriff's Office, Eduardo Mancias Gonzalez, 26, was arrested and arraigned Friday morning on burglary habitation charges and is on a $1M bail.
Deputies said that he confessed being part of the group of suspects that raided a home 1/2 Mile North of Mile 11 on Mile 4 West in Weslaco. Gonzalez also admitted getting rid of the weapon that was used by his brother, Juan Ignacio Gonzalez, 36, who later died from a gunshot wound to his left arm after the home invasion shooting happened between the group and the home owner, Angel Dominguez.
Both brothers have a lengthy violent criminal arrest record.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said that Dominguez will not be held criminally responsible for the death of Gonzalez. The Sheriff went on to say that they came to that decision after consulting with the District Attorney's Office. However, the Sheriff's Office is still looking for Dominguez to question him about the shooting.
" Dominguez will be held accountable for possession of a firearm while being a criminal alien with multiple deportation on his record," said Trevino. " Discussion with ICE officials have been conducted in order to file the proper charges. Dominguez's wife, Lisa Veronica Hernandez, has advised us that Dominguez has been in contact with her and will not come in for questioning."
The Sheriff added that they are still continuing to investigate the case and are searching for the other possible suspects involved with the home invasion.
