In Cameron county after five years of searching, sheriff investigators say they now have the man responsible for the murder of a Brownsville man back in 2004.
Jose Luis Garcia is accused of shooting and killing Tomas Hernandez Zapata on Houston street on September 9th, 2004. Investigators believe Zapata was hiding in Mexico after the murder, but after a few days of surveillance on East Levee and 11th street in downtown Brownsville. They arrested Garcia and charged him with the crime and, but investigators are also looking for Alejandro Teran in the murder of Zapata. Teran is currently serving time in a Mexican prison for killing another man in Mexico City. The sheriff's department says once Teran serves his time in Mexico he will be charged in the U.S. for Zapata's death.
