According to police, there's substantial evidence that shows 30-year-old, Hector Valdez, as the gunman for the paintball shooting at the Public Works pump station on May 7th. Police reports state surveillance cameras caught the EMS unit Valdez was driving pull up to a paint-free pump. But after driving off, that same pump had been tagged with blue paint. That blue paint was also left inside the unit when another paramedic inspected it.
“That’s not something a professional that understands the need of service and equipment should be doing.”
Valdez, who has been with the Brownsville Fire Department for four years, was arrested yesterday morning. He was charged with Criminal Mischief. He was released hours later on a $2,000 bond.
“We’re very shocked. We’re disappointed,” said Brownsville City Manager, Charlie Cabler.
Valdez remains on the job pending the outcome of the investigation.
