He is now charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after employees of a restaurant say, Joel Tovar, threatened a cook with a knife, then went outside and tried to run over two other employees with his car.
According to police, 44-year-old, Joel Tovar, got angry at restaurant employees after questioning their legal status in the country.
"He got upset and ended up in the kitchen area, picked up a knife and threatened a cook there."
He waved the knife around several times but never stabbed the cook. Tovar did push the employee, causing minor injuries. The suspect then went outside. He appeared to be leaving but witnesses say Tovar got in his car and drove towards other employees who had fled the business for their safety.
"The employees were definitely scared. Two of them fled from the area. When police got there, the two employees came back and told the officers what had happened."
Tovar was transported to county jail on a $36,000 bond and was also ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation.
