The person arrested had been with the U.S. Border Patrol for 13 years. 38-year-old, Ernesto Padron, was arrested yesterday on child pornography charges after officials found several videos and pictures of child pornography stored in his computer.
The now ex-border patrol agent was arrested at the Fort Brown station in Brownsville by ICE, the FBI and Cameron County Sheriff's Department.
"Makes us all sad and gives a black eye to law enforcement."
Sheriff, Omar Lucio, tells News Center 23, Padron who began his federal career with the Border Patrol in 1997 downloaded pictures and videos of child pornography for nearly three years.
Federal agents along with the sheriff's department raided Padron's home yesterday and during that raid, officials seized Padron's personal computer that contained several child pornographic material.
The feds started investigating Padron nearly a year ago. The Sheriff says it was only a matter of time before the feds had all the evidence required to charge the former agent with Possession and Promotion of Child Pornography.
"It's an investigation that's been conducted. This has been going on for a couple of years."
U.S. Border Patrol officials say Padron submitted his formal resignation Friday morning. As for the sheriff, he says this is an unfortunate circumstance that doesn't happen very often.
"The other officers throughout the U.S. do a great job protecting the people and they do what's right, but you'll find, like in any other business, an individual that will do something unlawful."
Padron remains in county jail on a $500,000 bond.
