The raid at the flea market brought 40 people into court this afternoon on charges of pirating DVD’s and CD’s and the Hidalgo Sheriff’s Department says 33 of the 40 people charged are undocumented immigrants.
They were arrested in a raid by seven different agencies at the Val Verde Flea Market in Alamo on Wednesday called “Operation Black Beard.” The undocumented immigrants will be interviewed by Border Patrol and if they are found guilty of the pirating charge they could face five years in prison and a $250,000 dollar fine.
Sheriff Lupe Trevino adds that the undocumented immigrants must serve their time and pay their fines here in the United States before being deported back.
