Early voting is underway and Hidalgo county has already seen huge numbers at the polls, Josh Navarro has the story.
Fewer people were coming and going on the second day of early voting and officials with the Hidalgo County Elections Department say that more people came out on Monday to vote for this year's local elections pushing the number of voters to 6,207. Election officials say the turnout is a result of voter outreach programs that helped motivate people to head to the polls.
The breakdown of the number of people coming out to early voting from years past:
* On October 18, 2004 4,570 people went to the polls which was a presidential election.
* On October 23, 2006 1,567 people went to the polls which was a gubernatorial election.
* On October 20, 2008 8,193 people went to the polls which was a presidential election.
Election officials say that in presidential election years the number of voters increases compared to regular local and gubernatorial elections and a possible reason why so many voters came out yesterday.
