Hurricane season starts June 1st and most here in the Valley remember that hurricane season 2008 brought with it damaging Dolly winds.
The category 2 storm left buildings across the Valley damaged and windows and glass shattered. It also left the South Padre Island resorts badly damaged, but as the new season starts most of the damage on SPI has been cleaned or repaired.
As some businesses continue the cleaning up process others are opening new buildings and bringing new business to the island. The Sheraton just opened to 100% repaired, bringing the island to about 92% occupancy overall. The town is about 428 rooms short of its normal inventory to host guests. Businesses there are hoping to keep those rooms filled throughout the summer.
