Local leaders confirm the drug violence that has been occurring in Mexico has spilled over to the United States.
Brownsville Police Officials say the shooting that left two men dead in Cameron County last Thursday was a drug cartel act.
A Cameron County Sheriff's Deputy found the bodies inside a pick-up truck parked in the median on FM-511 with the headlights on. The men inside were identified as, 25-year-old Omar Castillo and 38-year-old Jose Guadalupe Perez.
Sources say these men used to be Gulf Cartel members who switched over to the Zetas and those who ordered the killings are current members of the Gulf Cartel.
So what can be done to stop this kind of violence from reoccurring? Local leaders say there's not much anyone can do.
Brownsville Police will continue to patrol the city as they have been but Judge Cascos says we need to pay extra attention to those headed into Mexico.
