Authorities apprehend the suspect in the killing of a North Carolina police chief's daughter.
A team of federal agents, state and local police arrested 34 year-old Michael Neal Harvey Monday morning in Upstate New York.
"He was arrested without incident at 5620 Stevens Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY", said FBI Special Agent Jim Robertson.
Harvey was wanted on a murder warrant in the killing of 23-year-old Valerie Hamilton, the daughter of a Concord, North Carolina police chief.
"Obviously, this touches base with us, being law-enforcement officials and him losing a family member, but I'd have to say that we treat each case with the same zealousy to pick up someone who's killed a young girl", said Chief Merl Hamilton of the Concord, NC Police.
Hamilton's body was discovered in a North Carolina self-storage unit this past Saturday.
She was last seen alive at a Charlotte bar, and police have said they believe Harvey was the man spotted on surveillance video leaving the tavern with Hamilton last Wednesday.
Harvey's criminal record includes a first-degree sexual abuse conviction in New York State and North Carolina convictions for failing to register as a sex offender and felony breaking and entering.
The manhunt drew to a close at a Niagara Falls residence located near Harvey’s former residence.
"Dealing with these guys years and years, what always happens is, when somebody goes on the run, many times they will go back to an area where they're comfortable”, said Former FBI Profiler Clint Van Zandt. “They know their way around, they know the ins and outs of a city, perhaps they have a support group."
Authorities would not say what evidence led them to Harvey, or to Hamilton's body.
