At least four dead, dozens of homes destroyed in San Francisco suburb.
At least four people are dead and dozens injured after an explosion fueled by a ruptured gas line rocked a suburban San Francisco neighborhood Thursday night.
The massive explosion erupted into an inferno as it engulfed San Bruno in flames.
38 homes were destroyed.
"It just shook your body, you could feel the intensity of the fire and I'd never felt anything like it," said resident John Dowell.
More than 150 firefighters battled the flames from the ground while planes dropped retardant from the air.
At times the fifteen acre inferno looked more like a forest fire, not the center of a suburban neighborhood.
Hospitals are treating nearly two dozen patients.
Three are listed in critical condition.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is still underway.
