Festivities over the Holiday weekend were cut short for a number of people who chose to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
A special operation by Brownsville police, targeting drunk drivers, netted the arrest of over a dozen intoxicated drivers over the weekend. In conjunction with DPS troopers, on Friday alone, 12 drivers were booked into the city jail for drunk driving. A number, that in comparison to the entire operation, proved to be a pretty busy night for officers and troopers.
The number of arrest during the operation was 20, but a night in jail isn't where it ends for those arrested. The drivers, if convicted, could be given hefty fines and lose driving privileges. A fine for someone convicted of drinking and drinking is up to $2,000 dollars.
