School has started for many in the Valley and while most, if not all, students have all their school supplies, some are still waiting to buy some, they wait, as their families cannot afford the supplies.
That's why the Cameron County's District Attorney's Sword and Shield Organization donated about 150 book bags to several elementary schools in the country, because they know the need is there. Cynthia Garcia, a school counselor, said "There's a great need. Especially in these tough economic times. It's very difficult for a lot of families. We have a lot of single parent households so we are in great need."
Along with the backpacks, the students received other supplies, like markers, glue, paper and notebooks. Many things that are essential as they begin the school year.
