A 41 year old Brownsville man is dead after after a head on collision. Preliminary reports indicate a teenager was driving the wrong way when he hit the man head on killing him on impact.
This was the scene at 13th and Levee in downtown Brownsville near the border early Tuesday morning. Two vehicles totaled, a utility poll knocked down, and shattered glass on the sidewalk. Police say it was caused by a teen, Miguel Ramirez, who was going the wrong way on 13th street between Levee and St. Charles.
They say the teen was driving his suburban, when it struck a pontiac grand a-m driven by conrado ramirez.
Conrado Ramirez died at the scene, and the 17 year old was transferred to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police say that Conrado Ramirez was heading back from visiting his family in Mexico. He was on his way to work. Police say alcohol was a factor in this accident. They say the teen was drinking.
Miguel Ramirez will be charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter.
Police say that three other people where in the suburban with the teen. They received minor injuries.
PUB crews were back on the scene replacing the utility poll was that was knocked down.
Police have ordered a toxicology report determine how much alcohol was in the teen's system.
