About 500 cars are burglarized and nearly 100 stolen monthly here in the Rio Grande Valley. With July being auto theft prevention month officers from the Brownsville Police Department were out at two high traffic convenient stores Thursday enlightening people on just how easy it is to become a victim. Officers watched for drivers who went in the convenient store and left their keys in their car or left valuables out in plain sight. When drivers returned, officers alerted them on ways to reduce their risk of becoming a victim. Officers say it’s as easy as locking your doors, hiding your belongings and taking your keys with your when you leave your vehicle.
