Help from above may be on the way for Cameron county as they plan to take aerial action to fight the growing mosquito infestation, if state funding comes through, Na'Tassia Finley has the story.
An aerial attack is the plan as several hundred calls have come into the Cameron County Health Department from residents complaining about mosquitoes. Traditional methods, like spraying or placing briquettes or mosquito dunks in standing water, have helped, but not quite enough.
The heave rainfall and flooding, left behind from Hurricane Alex, has made for a perfect breading environment for the flying, biting insects. The county knows this Mosquito control method will make a huge difference and in a very short amount of time. As of now the county is waiting for an answer from the state on whether or not they'll be granted assistance with aerial mosquito control, but in the meantime, they are controlling to treat the pesky insects on land.
