Water levels are picking up in the Rio Grande near Sullivan City and that has residents concerned.
At the Los Ebanos Ferry on Rio Grande River you see the water levels have risen near the small city of Sullivan City. Residents on the US side and Mexico have camera phones and digital cameras taking pictures of the river.
"We are scared because we saw what happened in Monterrey."
Yesenia Acevedo is a Sullivan City resident. She also has a home in the Mexico. She has already been a flood victim there.
"Over there, we live near the river all the water inside the house. We were one of the first houses that the water came in. We lost everything over there our furniture inside and all the neighbors they have the same situation."
The fire department and police department in Sullivan City are standby as they continue to monitor the water levels. The Hidalgo County Sheriff says he also has deputies monitoring the situation.
"The water is moving at a good pace right now and you can tell as we mentioned before the levels have picked up and that residents concerned."
Acevedo says she does not want to see the same thing happened to her in Mexico happen in Sullivan city.
"It's really sad those people need water and food and they don't have electricity. We are afraid the same situation there will happen here."
