Porter High School located at 3500 International Blvd. has opened it's doors for community members seekiing refuge from Hurricane Alex. The school is prepared to handle about 800 people. About 35 Texas State Guardsmen will help man the shelter to maintain order and safety. People who plan to seek refuge at the school should take clothes, blankets, food, reading materials and games to keep their children entertained. They will be provided with three snacks per day. In case more shelters are needed the school district will open Rivera High School and James Pace High School.
