Whatever is hot or popular at the time seems to be the motto for criminals nowadays. Since the prices for copper has gone through the roof, these crooks are now getting their hands on wires, cables or gutters. They're tearing them from walls or buildings, in this case, an air conditioning system.
43-year-old, Javier Vasquez, and 66-year-old, Guadalupe Delgado, are accused of stripping copper tubing out of this air conditioning unit from an abandoned building located on East Harrison Avenue. The pair was caught just a block away from where the alleged theft happened. They were arrested and charged for theft of wire, cable and copper, a state jail felony.
The estimated value for the stolen tubing is approximately $400, but there's a chance the pair could have sold it for a lot more if they would have gotten away. Both men were given a $5,000 bond each.
