For less than the cost of a tank of gas you can help track your pet in case its lost or stolen.
A handful of cities require microchips when registering your four legged friends, but that's not the case in the Valley. One Brownsville family is hoping that the chip helps them find Chato, an English bulldog they say someone stole overnight.
The 5 year-old Old English bulldog is spending night number two away from home and that has dog owner, Lilian Medrano, very concerned. Medrano's children are losing sleep for their lost dog because the kids feel Chato is part of their family. Medrano works at Boca Chica Animal Hospital and says she did take steps to protect her pet from thieves by putting a chip in Chato which helps in case a dog gets lost.
With one phone call, she let veterinarian clinics and shelters nationwide know her pet is missing. All it takes is a scan of the ear where the chip is located and its a piece of hope that givers her a little more confidence her lost dog will return home.
If you have seen Chato you can call NewsCenter 23 at 956.554.3254.
