With the newly transferred Cameron County Park Rangers, now acting as Constables...Just weeks into their new positions, these deputies are patroling more areas and making arrests, including one tonight that surprised them.
At South Padre Island's Beach Access #5, Cameron County Constable deputies from Precinct 1, were making a routine traffic stop, which quickly turned into an arrest, but you won't believe the suspect's escape technique.
Running, and hiding, is what Cameron County Constable, Horacio Zamora says, Brownsville man, Diego David Luna did.
"He ran about fifty yards."
But Four Constable Deputies and South Padre Island Police officers did catch him, but Zamora says, the suspect didn't make it easy.
"After chasing the suspect thru the dunes, constable deputies finally found him buried under the sand."
"When the deputies and SPI police found him he had buried himself in the sand dunes."
Zamora says the reason he ran and hid from them, is because there was a warrant out for his arrest for possession of marijuana.
Now, in the short amount of time, since the Constables have added the Park Rangers to their team, he says, he's proud of these guys.
"It speaks that we have good officers, deputies, acquired from the parks, they're out there, working and hustling and doing their jobs."
Luna's arraingnment is set for tommorrow, where he'll face drug possession and evading arrest charges.
