If your planning to cross into or come from Mexico using the international port of entries, you may be paying more at the toll booth as the City of McAllen commissioners approved a toll increase, Michelle Macias has the story.
It's official, $2.50, is what you'll be paying at the toll booths if you use the Hidalgo/Reynosa International bridge after city commissioners approved a .25¢ increase at Tuesday's commissioners meeting. The fee increase is the second time the increase has occurred in the last three years. McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez say the increase was needed especially after the recent violence in Mexico has affected bridge crossing recently.
The city's bridge board recommended the .25¢ increase earlier in the month, in part, to make up for falling revenues. The new increase means about $150,000 dollars a month of revenues at both bridges. The increase begins on June 1st with a fee of $2.50 for driving and .75¢ to walk at the Hidalgo/Reynosa or Anzalduas port of entry.
