A desperate search is underway for 11 missing oil workers in the Gulf of Mexico after a drilling platform exploded. Now, that platform may topple over and giving way to a environmental disaster as well, NBC reporter Kristen Dahlgren has the latest.
More than 50 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, the massive explosion sent flames shooting into the sky and survivors scrambling to safety. Officials believe 126 workers were on the platform when the explosion occurred on Tuesday night. The majority of the workers did make it off and some had to be airlifted by the Coast Guard and the search for the missing men continues.
Hospitals in Louisiana and Alabama were accepting the wounded with seven individuals in critical condition. Firefighters are continuing to battle the flames and environmental teams are standing by if the platform does tip over into the sea.
