A 32 year-old Alamo man accused of attempting to run over an Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputy faced a judge on Thursday.
Rene Lugo is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant when a deputy saw Lugo driving a truck with an unsecured load on Monday night. In court documents the deputy says he asked the driver to park his truck and the driver refused and tried to run over the deputy. The deputy fired several rounds at the truck, but the man took off leading into a car chase. Lugo escaped capture, but officers found the truck at the intersection of Sioux and Tower road in Alamo.
Officers later arrested Lugo and if convicted he could face life in prison. The Sheriff's Department is also investigating the deputy who fired his weapon.
