Edinburg, TX — The City of Edinburg and the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation congratulate Dr. Havidan Rodriguez on being named Interim President of the University of Texas Pan American. Dr. Rodriguez, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and tenured professor in the department of sociology, currently serves on the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation Board.
He was appointed as the representative for the University of Texas Pan American on June 13, 2013. The EEDC Board consists of five members representing the City, University, Chamber of Commerce, Business Community and the Community at Large. Each term is for a two-year period with no term limits, however, each member must be re-appointed.
The EEDC plays a key role in assisting companies to expand, while helping to attract new business and industry to Edinburg.
Dr. Rodriguez takes over for Dr. Robert Nelsen who is stepping down as president on August 31st. Dr. Rodriguez will serve until 2015 when the new university becomes official and Dr. Guy Bailey will take over.
Mayor Richard H. Garcia who serves on the EEDC Board with Dr. Rodriguez says UTPA will be in good hands. “Havidan is a good choice. He is a dedicated hard worker who has the community’s best interests at heart.”
