HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Harlingen woman was arrested for assault after placing another woman, holding her infant, into a choke hold and impeding her breathing.
On Sunday, June 22nd at approximately 8 p.m. Harlingen police officers responded to Pendleton Park in reference to a disturbance.
Officers made contact with a group of individuals involved in the disturbance and were informed by the victim, a mother with a 6 month-old daughter, that another woman, identified as Ana Monica Olivarez, 36, had placed a choke hold from behind and impeded her breathing.
Olivarez was arrested for assault and additional placing the child in danger of injury. During the incident a man, identified as Adrian De La Torre, 20, had assaulted another man attempting to assist the victim and made threats against the victim for filing charges against Olivarez.
Olivarez was charged with assault impeding breath and endangering a child with a bond totaling $30,000, De La Torre was charged with obstruction/retaliation and handed a bond of $15,000.
