HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Harlingen police arrested two men for theft of two beer cans and food after police were able to identify one of them from surveillance video.
On Friday, June 20th at around 3 a.m. police officers were dispatched to a Stripes store, located at 1560 N. 77 Sunshine Strip, in reference to a theft.
An employee informed officers that two individuals entered the store, selected two edible items, two 25oz beer cans and fled the store without paying then fleeing in a silver Nissan truck.
Officers viewed the surveillance video and identified one suspect as Abelardo Martinez, 58, and located him in the backyard on the 600 block of E. Monroe Avenue next to a silver Nissan with another man.
After an investigation officers arrested Martinez and the other man, identified as Jim Cavazos, 40, for theft and additional both men had outstanding warrants.
Martinez was charged with theft, handed a $15,000 bond and had warrants totaling over $5,000 dollars. Cavazos was charged with theft, handed a bond of $15,000 and had warrants totaling over $10,000 dollars.
