The Brownsville Animal Shelter is forced to euthanize hundreds of animals each month. Mayor Pat Ahumada says around 7,000 animals die every year because there's just not enough room to house them. Dozens of animals are taken to the Brownsville Animal Shelter daily; some are brought in by Animal Control, while others are given away by their own owners. A proposal that would have expanded the shelter and saving hundreds of animals failed months ago. Right now, the shelter can only house 62 dogs and for the Mayor, that number is not enough for a city so large. He believes the shelter should be expanded.
