MISSION, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — For the past two weeks, the city of Mission has been experiencing numerous tire thefts.
Police arrested one of the suspects believed to be involved.
Natanael Jaspe Morales, 23, is charged with two counts of theft by appropriation for allegedly stealing tires from multiple vehicles.
Morales told the judge that he is not a U.S. citizen.
Officials say these thefts were problematic because of the number of victims affected.
"The unique deal was he appeared to be stealing two rims from a Chevy product, and they'd go to the next victim and steal two more rims to complete a set when in essence that causes us to have to victims instead of just one victim in stealing a whole set of four," explained Lt. Jody Tittle with the Mission Police Department.
Morales received a total bond set at $100,000 for the two theft by appropriation charges. He was arrested along with a male juvenile.
Police are still looking for additional suspects who may be involved in the tire thefts.
