New details in the case of a McAllen woman found dead northeast of Alton Tuesday. Investigators are declaring it a homicide after they say the woman was shot in the torso.
35 year old Maria Magallan was found dead around 4:15 by a field worker and authorities are now treating it as a homicide. This is the scene Tuesday night as a body was taken away after it was found near Eight mile and Glascock.
The Sheriff's Department has positively identified the body as Maria Magallan of McAllen. The Hidalgo County Sheriff says she was shot in the upper torso.
Magallan lived on the 500 block of South 20 1/2 street a neighbor says Magallan was renting the home. She didn't see Magallan that much but says it's a tragedy, on how she died.
Sheriff Lupe Trevino says that she usually seen around Bicentennial between Chicago and Dallas. The Sheriffs Department also says that Magallan has criminal background. She was once arrested for a drug related crime.
The Sheriff Department says they will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. So far there are no suspects in connection with Magallan's murder. The Sheriff Department is asking for the publics help in this investigation.
